Toggl alternatives when you need the computer day

18 October 2026

People search for a Toggl alternative for two different jobs. One job is a timer you start and attach to a client. The other is a record of the computer day you do not have to start.

What Toggl Track is for

Toggl Track is a timer. Time is attached to a project or a client, which suits billing. It does not, by itself, list every application that was open. Prices and plan limits change, so read Toggl’s own pricing page before you compare cost. This page does not quote them.

When Mycroscope is the closer fit

Mycroscope records the application, the website, and active or idle time after each person acknowledges a monitoring notice. Managers read the team. Each person can open their own day. It does not produce a client invoice and it does not assign tasks. Prices on this site are in rand. Free covers up to 3 people.

RescueTime is closer to this second job than Toggl is, because it also records apps and sites in the background. That comparison is separate.

How to choose

Choose a timer when the question is what to bill. Choose an activity record when the question is where the computer day went.
