The Pomodoro technique beside an automatic tracker
The Pomodoro technique is a timer. Work on one thing for about 25 minutes, take a short break, and take a longer break after four rounds. A kitchen timer is enough. Mycroscope is not that timer, and it does not count the rounds.
Use both if you want both
Run the timer for the task in front of you. Let the Windows app record the apps, the websites, and the time away that you mark. At the end of the day the dashboard shows the stretches of active time. It does not know which stretch was a tomato.
Breaks are part of the method. When the away prompt is on, a break can be recorded as a break instead of looking like idle time at the keyboard.
When a timer is the wrong tool
A timer is for one person’s next half hour. A team that wants the shape of the whole day, by person and by tool, needs a record that runs without a start button. That is the productivity tracker, after the monitoring notice is acknowledged.
