How to measure team productivity
A team’s productivity is the work it finishes, not the number of hours a screen was on. Hours still answer a useful question: did the day match the schedule, which tools took the time, and who is far under or over a goal.
Use more than one figure
- Output the team already tracks somewhere else, such as deadlines met or work shipped. Mycroscope does not count tickets or lines of code.
- The shape of the day: active time, apps, websites, and meetings away from the computer.
- A goal for productive time, then the gap. Green, amber and red compare that time with the goal. They are not a score of character.
- Whether activity sat inside the hours the company set.
- Office and remote days, when the company has set a location rule.
Leave these out as a single score
Lines of code, mouse movement, and one “productivity number” are easy to game and hard to explain. A chart colour is not a reason to discipline someone. The figures show what was recorded.
Where Mycroscope fits
After each person acknowledges the monitoring notice, the Windows app records the application, the website, and active or idle time. Managers read that day on the dashboard. Each person can open their own activity. The product does not photograph the screen.
